Synthetic Grass Football Pitch

Friends of Aschiana UK, together with a hugely generous contribution from the Linda Norgrove Foundation have helped Aschiana to realise a heartfelt ambition, to provide a brand new, all-weather football pitch for their street working boys and girls.

Aschiana’s Founder, Engineer Mohammad Yousef and the girls’ Football Coach, cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony.

4 national Television channels covered the opening of the new football pitch, and interviewed some of the children, whose love of football was clear to see.

This is how the pitch looked before. They played on loose dust and stones.

Now the pitch is earning money for the school, by being hired out for practice, to the Afghan National Womens’ Under 18 team, as well as many other local organisations.

The new pitch has floodlights for night games and a new seating area for spectators. This helps Aschiana to hire out the pitch to other organisations and teams, at night when the children are not using it.

compOrganised sport is one of the most important areas, where these children can reclaim their childhood. The combination of sports and regular meals, provided by Aschiana, has also seen a vast improvement in their academic work. Most important of all is the spirit of fun it brings to street working children, who have had little provision for joy in their short lives.
